How To Write My Thesis: A Quick Tutorial For Beginners

For most Master’s students or even research students, writing the thesis is the most difficult task in their academic career. Well, if you think logically it would only make sense, because the thesis carries a huge weighting towards the final degree marks. Some university would even fail you immediately if you don’t achieve at least a pass for your thesis. That is certainly troublesome for most! However, there are actually a few quick and easy tips that you may use to benefit the way you write your assignment. Here is a simple formula to become successful:

No plagiarism

The first thing that you have to make sure is that your work is completely original and it will pass plagiarism scans. Nowadays there are more and more software used to detect whether the work is original or not. If your work is copied from elsewhere, you’re not going to get away with it. Do things safely and just don’t plagiarise.

Read a lot

And by that, I mean a lot! Writing a thesis requires extensive knowledge on the topic. It is not a day’s work, so you better start early. Begin by reading through books and journal articles on the area that you are studying. Don’t just read them though – you have to understand it! Otherwise you are just wasting your time!

Arrange a lot of meetings with your tutor

You will be assigned a tutor to help with your work, so use the resource properly! Arrange a weekly meeting with your tutor to assess your progress and ensure that you are on the right track. This would certainly help you in getting a good final grade and minimise the chances of screwing up!

Discussion groups with peer

Writing the thesis can be very demotivating and it can really get to you at times. That’s why you need to be with your friends and develop new arguments and ideas to strengthen your work. Although the writing up is an individual work, you are more than welcome to share ideas amongst each other! Actually, universities encourage students to share ideas, as that would expand the knowledge and it is beneficial to the topic of your study. But this doesn’t mean you can plagiarise each other!
